Belle of the Ball

Rapunzel and Belle partied it up at a local library's "Royal Ball" this past weekend (I was Belle). It was just about the cutest thing ever.

First, the kids entered the library and walked down a red carpet in their princessy finest (or the Spidermany finest for one little boy). Then they hobnobbed with the other local royalty and had some photo ops with the "real" princesses before the ball began.

When it was time to head to the ball, instead of simply ushering the children into the "ballroom", the library staff announced each family's names as then entered. It went something like this:

"Presenting Princess Lila and Prince Jack, accompanied by King Steve and Queen Jill!" (The king and queen were the parents).

It was so precious!

Once the ball started, Rapunzel and I (Belle) each went up to a little girl to ask them to dance. We spent the first song holding their hands and swaying back and forth to the music. It was rather peaceful.

Then Belle's song came on. In a matter of seconds, I found myself dancing with no less than 9 little girls, each one grasping one of my fingers. I mean, it's Belle's song, you HAVE to dance with Belle! I think I officially made 9 little girls' year that day. Which in turn makes MY day!

Then we played a game akin to music chairs, where there for a number of mats on the floor and you would run around dancing and when the music stopped, everyone had to try to stand on a mat. Unfortunately, my skirt is so big that it would cover the entire mat when I stood on it! I had to disqualify myself and watch forlornly from the sidelines. Oh the woes of wearing beautiful ballgowns!

After much dancing and picture taking and listening to Rapunzel read a story, it was time to go. I'd say there were maybe 20 kids there but I must have gotten at least 100 hugs. It doesn't what you've got going on in your life (or how much your feet hurt from dancing in heels!), 100 hugs will warm anyone's heart. Hands down, it's one of the things I love best about being a princess.
